  • Hm, right.. not so much "Artists of the Century" as "People who turned up at the photoshoot." No Blur, Manic Street Preachers, Kasabian, Jarvis Cocker or Franz Ferdinand... yet of course the big guns are there, such as Bono, despite him not having made a good album in yonks. Anyone else wondering if their stomach can handle seeing Amy Winehouse's balloons in high resolution? Bitching and moaning aside, I do agree with a lot of the cover stars and am looking forward to reading it. Cheers, Q!

Only these I mentioned have MUCH more impact in music than any of those who are on your list Q! That's just ridiculous. Even Britney Spears or Lady Gaga are MUCH more important than Lilly Allen or Pink for God's sake! And U2? When was their last good album? Oh! In the 90s... when Bono wrote a good tune? Oh! In the 90s... You guys should just put Michael Jackson on the cover then, as you seem to think the future of music is made of creative corpses.

The fact that really influencial names of music like White Stripes, Arcade Fire, Karen O, Jay-Z, Beyonce, Thom Yorke/Radiohead, Kanye West and Julian Casablancas were left out makes the appeal of it drecrease to ground zero.

This year they had a crap album out and a super mega tour that attacts people more because of the stage than because if the band playing in it! AND THEY PLAY ALL THE SONGS FROM THE 90S. And now they will even leave the "all too good for a festival posture" and play at Glastonbury! Wonder why?

What did Bono and Macca did for THIS century yet? NOTHING! It is just to sell magazines backed by record companies, I would be ashamed to feature in something so lazily put out.

Their work in a year is much more creative and important than the work that all those record company backed wannabe important artists (aside Bono, Macca and Plant) did in their whole careers.

One of the most innovative albums of the year, lauded by practically every national reviewer so far is discounted by some non-descript talentless nobody! Oh it makes me mad!

  • If Radiohead were 90's you DOOFUS, what are U2 then? And Oasis? And Macca? Get a grip! Radiohead released FOUR albums in the 00s, TWO of them are classics now, being Kid A and In Rainbows! Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood, alone, did better work in The Eraser and in the There Will Be Blood soundtrack than half of those arses featured on that cover! You don't need to be a die hard fan to understand that the lack of them on that cover is beyond ridiculous! Of course, the 'Boggle eyed moody judy' probably didn't accept to do an interview with Q and make a silly pose for the cover, but Q should have HONOR and cite them! Same for Beck and Jack White!

  • Where are the black people on that cover? Are you saying that the "best of the century" (what a joke, just ten years and you are doing a century edition...) have just ONE black person who is influential? Rihanna over Beyonce? Where is PJ Harvey? Where is Kanye West? Jay-Z? L Wayne? Are you saying to me that Bono and Chris Martin are more important than Jay-Z? That The Killers and Gorillaz are more important than damn Radiohead (who influenced at least HALF of those people on that cover)??? Are you saying that Dave Grohl is more important than Jack White??? I am sorry, but that list is RACIST and a JOKE! Most people there are in need of publicity, except Muse and Rihanna who have a bust of popularity right now (although they lack the real respect as fundamental artists they should have to be on that list), but still... Florence have ONE album and she is influential? Where? Karen O and Betty Ditto are much better, even Taylor Swift or Britney would be more deserving than her. That list is the example of editors who have their heads inside their own arses (and record companies money inside their bank accounts).

I would put in the cover: Radiohead, Arcade Fire and TV on the Radio. There are also great bands outside the U.K. and North America.

  • This is a terrible representation of the best music from the last century. The list for those left out is bigger than the one's included. Florence, Pink, and Rihanna need to not be in this list. Biggie, Radiohead, Blur (Gorrillaz doesn't count), De La Soul, The Clash, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, James Taylor, NaS, Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, Usher, Jodeci, Prince, Michael Jackson, Metallica, Joy Division, Happy Mondays, The Libertines, Simon & Garfunkel, Daft Punk, Miles Davis, Cat Power, Joni Mitchell... Well, we know how long this could go on, but seriously, 'Artists of The Century'? If it's the editor's personal choice, you need a better editor. If it's the combined choice of Q as a magazine, you all need new professions. It sort of takes away the accolade from the artists who deserve to be on there (ie, the artists not Florence, Pink, Rihanna. Poor show.

  • Where's Radiohead, The Strokes or Bloc Party? Just these three bands have made more of an impact on music than half of the crap that's on there, Amy Winehouse and Lily Allen have only released two albums in the space of what 4 or 5 years? Even newer bands like Fleet Foxes, MGMT and Vampire Weekend have made more of an impact with their debuts. I could go on, Damon Albarn should of been on the fore front of this, not only have Blur made a great comeback but he also created Gorillaz and The Good, The Bad and The Queen, two of the greater acts from the last decade, not forgetting an opera.

Paul McCartney has made three great albums: "Driving rain", "Chaos.." and "Electric arguments", but he's not the future. U2 has nothing right now, Noel Gallagher never made nothing interesting...Nick Cave is always a great creator but where ara Arcade Fire, LCD Soundsystem, Bon Iver, Animal Collective, M.I.A., etc. That's the future, isn't it?

  • I really liked the issue itself, haven't been around for much of the last century (thank goodness) but I was proud of being able to name everyone on the cover. It was especially good to see bands like Elbow getting more credit for all their work over the past decade. My favourite however was the interview with Brandon Flowers - he's usually so shy that when he got all emotional I nearly cried!

  • Hi Q, unlike some other ungrateful arses - I'd like to thank you for putting the issue together. Obviously they couldn't cram every single artist of the last 100 years onto the cover (it's expanded over three pages as it is) afterall, many of the most influental artists of the last century are now long dead. I grew up listening to U2 and feel obliged to defend them, even Noel Galliger mentioned in his interview that Bono was one of his peers. People said how come the Strokes weren't in it - What are they talking about? "Is this it?" came at no. 2 in the album list :). I guess it has only been a decade so who says Florence and the Machine won't turn out to be one of the most influential artists of the century? Anyone who complains that they leaft people out needs to read the issue, even Spongebob-freakin-squarepants got to make a nomination.

She has arguably the best female voice of the decade, her 2 grammy's are testament to that. She will also be the first female to headline the Wireless Festival. REMEMBER, BEING IN TRASH MAGS OR MUSIC AWARDS ALL THE TIME DOESNT MAKE HER PEERS MORE SUCCESFUL. Check the statistics from BILLBOARD.COM. Kings of Leon, Lily Alen, RIhanna etc have no business being there.

Mccarthy's biggest gig was the superbowl and Noel well he tried to resurrect "Morning Glory" days to no avail. Lilly Allen was good but not more influential then Beyonce or Mariah or Susan Boyle for that matter. Amy deserves her place as she did create a new sound for oldies and youngin's alike. Kings Of Leon deserve to be there more then perhaps Grohl but both bands have been consistent. I'm still wondering why Coldplay and Mick Jagger aren't up there. Weird!!
