LENNON AT 70, COLLECTORS ISSUE
The former Beatle was an anti-war icon, a house husband , a troubled soul, but most importantly he was a musical genius. On the anniversary of his birthday join Yoko Ono, Paul McCartney, Bono, and Jay-Z, as we celebrate the life of a legend. The journey begins with the Liverpool art student in late 1958 and follows his transformation into not only a Beatle, but an emblem for peace and hope. Lennon was a disruptive pupil at Quarry Bank high School who managed to secure a place into college despite never even sitting an entrance exam. Even at this early stage his artistic potential had been spotted and allowed him to get ahead. In this 25 page feature we explore every aspect of Lennon and the wealth of music he has left behind. There's previously unseen photography and a look at his candid last ever interview. Also we list the 20 essential John Lennon songs that no ipod should be without as well as a detailed look at his discography.

The 60's - John Meets Yoko
"I knew that Yoko was the one for John. The mental aura that surrounded them was almost identical." - Cynthia Lennon

In the 60's Lennon underwent the most radical transformation of any rock star. He was beforehand the self-confessed fat Beatle, in a turbulent marriage, but then quickly transformed himself into the angular faced figure of Sgt Pepper. The chubby moptop morphed into an iconiclastic long-haired peacenik with a penchant for the headline grabbing and the avant garde.

THE UNSEEN LENNON
It wasn't just bed-ins and lost weekends. There were the strange kids' toys, too.

These previously unused images provide a colourful portrayal of the artist and a new perspective from which to view his depth of character. Everything from recording sessions at Abbey Road to a rare colour photo with his son Sean are there to be observed.
LENNON'S LAST INTERVIEW
He came, he saw, he opened up. Then he was gone.

On 6 December 1980, John Lennon gave a candid three-hour interview to BBC DJ Andy Peebles in which he discussed The Beatles, Yoko, drugs and his plans for the future. Four days later, he was dead. Here, Peebles recalls his time with Lennon, along with the most memorable moments from their chat...

These Oxford rockers show Q around The House Of Supreme Mathematics.
ELVIS COSTELLO
“Bill Clinton's eyes flashed like I'd landed a punch on him.”
He's tackled acid-fried naked stage invaders and shot the breeze with a US President. So talk of his "sad git music" and an "embarrasing" turn on The Simpsons should hold no fears for the man born Declan MacManus. Oh...
RADIO 1 PLAYLIST
“The record industry's grip used to be massive but Arctic Monkeys were a game-changer.”
One room, 13 experts, reams of stars and a bag of clementines: Radio 1's weekly playlist summit is where careers can be made - and destroyed. ”
